As I ponder thinking about writing it gets my mind chased up wondering how i can put my ideas, my words, my thoughts all in a sheet of paper. Do I consider myself a writer by the number of pages I write or by number of stories I've wrote? I know me more than anyone else thus I do not think i am a writer, I know.
I am a writer. I am a musician. As a musician i know and understand the tempo of my song. Evaluating every note attaching the cords to form a smooth melody by which only the musician understands and knows how the song identifies itself; a harmony.
I am a writer. I am a architect. My ability to structure the words and to organize are endless. To meticulously place my ideas is a form of fulfilment of myself unfolding itself showing you the layout.
I am a writer. I am a pilot. I navigate my wings toward the horizon knowing only what lies ahead and leaving the world behind. I know my mission and i know i will succeed. Listeining to my superior is my weakness but listing to my heart isn't! So let me fly away, circle my feelings, judge my senses, suggest my solutions, reason my purposes to reach my thoughts were i may dwell within them because after all I steer Me Myself & My Pen.
Joel,
ReplyDeleteYour post is full of lovely poetry - I'd love to hear more from you and less from DMX. Your minimum 200 words need to all come from you.
I will look forward to future posts that share YOUR voice, respond the prompt, and credit others when you borrow their work or words.
Ms. Rae
I haven't "borrowed" any work. I may have got the idea from other poets but thats what writing is about. Its about reading someone else's work and turning it in to your own and writing from the heart. When I compose my music i get inspired from a song i've heard or from a tune that caught my attention or maybe im writing purly by inspiration from someone but its knowing how to create out of what you got.
ReplyDeleteJoel, I love that you've defended your post! I appreciate that you are willing to articulate your position, and I agree that inspiration is a critical part of writing.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it's a great skill in all academic worlds (and many professional ones as well) to give credit to who's inspired you. Imagine someone who has never met you or heard the song reading this. It matters to know the ideas - music, lyrics, writers, films and more - that contribute to your perspective to be able to give your thoughts a better context.
I still look forward to reading your next post - hopefully your mentor will join the conversation, too :)
